Vita to get a price cut in 2013, no specific timing – Sony

Holiday 2012 should be fun.

Almost everyone with a basic clue of how the market works has been calling upon Sony to do a price cut for the Vita. The system launched at $250 and when you take into account the memory cards, it does become a bit expensive.

Sony has mentioned in an interview with Eurogamer that they will be dropping the price next year but have no specifc timing on when that will happen. They’ve told that they will be enhancing the value of the system via bundles and other things. The Vita is currently at $199 at Frys so there’s that.

“We always aim to establish price cuts. So the question is not so much if, but when. We won’t have an across the board pricedown this Christmas. But what you will see us doing is work very hard with our retail partners to add value to the product to make it more compelling,” Sony UK boss Feral Gara told Eurogamer.

“Even this week, there are some tremendously attractive bundles out there, for example Wi-fi Vita plus LittleBigPlanet at the £200 price point. There’s the wi-fi product again plus FIFA 13 plus Uncharted Golden Abyss plus LittleBigPlanet at not much above the £200 price point.

“We will be working that very hard over the coming weeks as more and more software arrives.”
