WARDOGS Season 2 went live last week, and while player numbers are strong, peaking at nearly 289,000 concurrent players in the past 24 hours, it hasn’t gone down well. Recent Steam reviews have dropped to “Mixed”, with complaints including cheating and the lack of region locking.
It also doesn’t help that Bulkhead Studios’ Blue Team change, which offered increased XP and money for those who joined it, led many to rush to end-game loot within days. This wouldn’t be the biggest issue, if not for the fact that the milsim recently wiped progress from Season 0 to put everyone on a level playing field.
The studio has addressed the same, noting, “Season 2 was meant to be a fresh start, and for a lot of you it hasn’t felt like one. We sped up progression deliberately and tried to balance the game better, as set out in the patch notes, but it was the wrong call.
“Some players are reaching end-game gear like Tier 4 armor and MBTs within days, so the wipe never really landed. Some things are clearly out of balance, and we’ll fix them. Others have the community split, so we want to see how those play out first.”
However, it’s not going to suddenly reset the economy again since it would “be unfair on everyone already enjoying the climb. Instead, we’re looking at significantly bringing forward Season 3 and some of its content, so you get a proper fresh start. More details in our dev vlog next week.”
Despite all the issues, Season 2 has offered a pretty hefty infusion of new content, from four new weapons with various attachments to the new Molotov throwable. Four new vehicles, three new structures, and rain, which can affect sound and visibility, have also been introduced. It even added an experimental Wager Vendor so players can bet on their own performance and earn big bucks.
As always, stay tuned for more updates on whatever Bulkhead has planned. You can also check out our pre-Season 2 review for WARDOGS here.
