Saber Interactive COO Tim Willits has revealed the studio’s plans for some of the paid additional content that might be released for upcoming third-person action title Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. In an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, Willits revealed that the game will be using a model similar to what the studio did with World War Z, before going on to praise publisher Focus Entertainment for the freedom it allows the developer with such decisions.

“There are shifts and trends in the industry,” said Willits. “People don’t want to be sold horse armour anymore. I can say that because I worked at Bethesda. Our fans never thought we ripped them off in World War Z. Focus are great. They kind of let us do what we want.”

Willits went on to add that the game’s paid post-launch purchases will be limited to things such as weapon and character packs. As previously confirmed, however, all paid DLC will be cosmetic only, and you can expect plenty of free post-launch content as well.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is slated for release in September 9, and will be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. For more details on the game, here are our thoughts on why it is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of the year.
