Shiro Games’ Wartales launched out of early access last month and saw over 100,000 players on April 16th. Since its early access launch, the gritty open-world RPG has sold over 600,000 units and has over one million wishlists. A quick peek at its Steam rating reveals 13,424 user reviews, with 91 percent being positive. Even the recent 4,281 reviews show a 91 percent positive average.
CEO Nicolas Cannasse said, “We’re overwhelmed with gratitude by the positive community feedback. You are now more than 600,000 players who have explored the Wartales world, and so many of you have spent hundreds of hours enjoying the game and sharing your discoveries with other players. Thank you, it means a lot to us!”
Wartales follows a medieval world beset by the Great Plague, which brought the previous Edoran Empire down a century prior. You command a group of mercenaries, doing your best to get by while taking on contracts and bounties to survive. Since exiting early access, it offers over 100 hours of gameplay, with the 1.0 release adding more story content, full English voice acting, and a new Tomb of the Ancients.
The level cap has also increased to 12, and Braveries, powerful new skills for each character per round, are also available. It also added various quality-of-life changes, like the last level of Professions taking less time to unlock, revamps to The Alchemist and more. Whether it will receive extensive post-launch support like Northgard remains to be seen, so stay tuned.
