Watch Dogs Downgrade Happened Because Of Lack Of Information On PS4 and Xbox One- Ubisoft

'Watch Dogs was revealed before anyone knew what the next gen consoles would be.'

Watch Dogs wet road

One of the most infamous instances of a game being announced with a gorgeous looking trailer, and the final game looking substantially worse than that, is Watch Dogs– announced at E3 2012 in a hell of a reveal, the final game’s graphics looked far worse than what the initial trailer for the game had suggested. The downgrade, and the controversy surrounding it, was so severe that people have been wary of all Ubisoft games ever since.

However, that issue will not be repeated with Watch Dogs 2, Ubisoft insists. In an interview with the Evening Standard, Dominic Guay, senior producer on the game, has discussed the reasons behind the downgrade on the first game, also explaining why something like that will not happen this time around.

“One thing to remember is that the first showing of Watch Dogs came in summer 2012, before anyone knew what the Next Gen of consoles and hardware would be,” Guay said. “We did our best at the time to predict what that would be and always were forward that this first showing was running on a very powerful PC.”

Guay then explained that the timing of the release of the new game ensured that that set of circumstances will not be repeated this time around.

“For Watch Dogs 2, we are in a much more predictable context. We have been developing the game on our target platforms from the beginning,” he said.

I can actually believe this- it’s a candid and very reasonable response about what happened, why it happened, and why it won’t happen again. I just hope that Ubisoft don’t disappoint with Watch Dogs 2, which launches on November 15 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
