Watch_Dogs Mo-Cap Video Details Complex Animation Process

Ubisoft has released a new video for their upcoming open world action adventure hacking title Watch_Dogs, which details the game’s animation process achieved through motion capture. And it’s the perfect example of how much we understate the simplest of actions being performed in-game when they so many resources to effectively create.

Some actions such as leaping over obstacles are captured by getting objects with the exact height necessary to mo-cap the animation are exceedingly complex. Others are simple, yet require unorthodox methods to capture. Animation director Colin Graham talks about in order to capture protagonist Aiden Pearce’s standard walking animation, they had to rig the actor with a rope to create the exact posture.

It’s the little details like this that help the game stand out all the more. Watch_Dogs is currently slated to release in November for PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U, with an Xbox One and PS4 release by year end.
