Castlevania Symphony of the Night

It’s been a long, long time since Konami released a new mainline Castlevania game, making it one of several beloved properties under the Japanese publisher’s belt that have been dormant for years, though recent years have still seen some activity for it. Castlevania’s animated Netflix series has received widespread positive reception, while Konami has also re-released a number of older games in the series with Castlevania Anniversary Collection and Castlevania Advance Collection. More recently, the company also collaborated with Motion Twin to release the Return to Castlevania DLC for Dead Cells– and it’s well aware that there’s plenty of demand for more.

Speaking to IGN, Konami’s Tsutomu Taniguchi said that the company is aware of the “excitement and enthusiasm of the fans online”, adding that it’s “really motivating for [Konami]”, and acknowledging that fans want more.

“We tried to bring back the games that people loved and cherished with the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Castlevania Advance Collection, we also brought back Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night for our PlayStation fans and on mobile, and launched Grimoire of Souls on Apple Arcade to celebrate the lore of the franchise,” he said. “But we know that our fans always want more, and we do too, so this opportunity to have this amazing crossover with Dead Cells was impossible to pass up on.”

Of course, while re-releases of older classic are all well and good, what series fans will really want is a new mainline entry in the series- and apparently, that might not be too far away either. Recent reports have claimed that a new Castlevania game is in the works, and will be announced by Konami at E3 this year, along with a ground-up remake of Metal Gear Solid 3.
