“We Want the Metal Gear Solid Movie to Happen,” Says Actor Signed on to Play Solid Snake

Actor Oscar Isaac, who's signed on to play Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid's long-in-the-making movie adaptation, is hopeful that the project will begin at some point.

A film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid has been in the making for years at this point. Some significant developments have given series fans hope that it might actually end up happening – like Jordan Vogt-Roberts (best known for Kong: Skull Island) attached to the project as its director, and actor Oscar Isaac set to play Solid Snake – but the lack of concrete movement in other areas has made many others skeptical.

But where do the people involved with the would-be project stand on its progress? Isaac was recently asked about the same in an interview with Comic Book, and said that while things such as its script and story haven’t yet been finalized, he remains hopeful that it will end up happening sooner or later.

“We want it to happen,” he said. “Be excited. What’s the script? What’s the story? What’s the take? […] But hopeful that comes to fruition because there’s so much potential for that. It’s an incredible game. It’s my favorite.”

Given the eccentric nature of Metal Gear Solid as a franchise and its unique style of storytelling, there’s been plenty of skepticism about whether a movie adaptation would even work, and the fact that crucial elements (like a script for the film) haven’t yet been finalized all these years later might not inspire a lot of confidence. Here’s hoping we’ll get more concrete details on the project in the near future.

Meanwhile, if leaks are to be believed, it seems like Konami is working on bringing back Metal Gear Solid with new game releases as well, including remasters of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3, as well as a ground-up remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 developed by Virtuos. While there’s been no official word on the same yet, Konami’s recent Silent Hill announcements do provide a glimmer of hope for fans of the company’s other dormant franchises.
