Splatoon
So here’s something brand new- a new IP being developed by Nintendo. Wait, I’m not done yet- it’s a shooter. But of course, it’s Nintendo, so it’s not just any shooter- it’s a shooter done in an innately Nintendo style, unlike, well, anything else on the market.
It’s bright, it’s colorful, it’s fast paced, and it has a whole new spin on shooter mechanics and movement- forget Titanfall, this is the shooter that might redefine how the genre is perceived this generation onwards. Splatoon charges players with claiming as much turf as possible, by shooting color everywhere. You can also travel through territory that has your color on it as a squid, and you can take down opposing players, to take them out in a burst of your own color and claim even more territory. It’s… something else. It looks gloriously fun. And it is very hard to not be sold on it.
Just look at that trailer above- that’s a brand new Nintendo IP all right, with the Japanese giant flexing its creative muscles like it has not in over a decade now. Splatoon looks absolutely amazing, and it is one of those few games that you simply have to pick up next year, no matter what platform your allegiances ultimately lie with.
