The Xbox 360 has now crossed 57 million units sales worldwide, after six years of release. Major Nelson revealed this via Twitter, saying: “Just saw a new sales figure that I though you would like: Xbox 360 has sold more than 57 million units worldwide.”

With exclusives like Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary on their way and others like Gears of War 3 and Forza Motorsport 4 already doing very well on the market, and several hardware bundles- like the Star Wars Kinect bundle, Modern Warfare 3 budle, Gears of War 3 bundle and others- coming our way as well, it seems like the sales of the system will only be gathering more momentum.

Microsoft’s direct competitor, PS3, is still behind the 360, though not by behind, having now sold 55.5 million units worldwide. The Wii, on the other hand, is way ahead of them, with a staggering 89 million units sold worldwide.
