Microsoft Xbox 360 has hit a major milestone of 70 million units shipped worldwide, but all isn’t that rosy, with the operating income crashing down to a mere $19 million from $340 million from the same quarter last year.
They shipped 1.7 million consoles, down from 2.3 million from the same quarter of last year. That’s a massive decline in shipments but Xbox Live revenue has offset that by a bit.
“The Entertainment and Devices Division posted revenue of $1.95 billion, a decrease of 1% from the prior year period. Xbox continues to be the top-selling console in the U.S., where it now has 49% market share,” the press release reads.
“Windows Phone 8 will launch this fall with an expanded array of products, prices, carriers, and markets. Skype continued its rapid growth and now has over 280 million users.”
Microsoft has revealed the reason for the poor software sales and have said that its due to no big software equivalent of Gears 3 this quarter. Halo 4 should come out on Q2 and that should be a good period for Microsoft.
