The Xbox 720 has been in the rumours a lot, lately, even though it’s not even been announced yet. Recently, an unnamed source told Edge that Microsoft’s next system will be out in 2012, and that major developers such as Ubisoft and EA already had the dev kits.
Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, however, believes there won’t be any new console- not until 2014, at least. He believes the aforementioned rumours “are silly”.
“Those rumors are silly,” he said while speaking to Industry Gamers. “[Microsoft will not release an Xbox 360 successor] until sales begin to slow.”
“I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8,” he continued. “I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don’t think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014.”
Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated on this.
