Now this sounds interesting...

It seems like Microsoft may be preparing an overhauled meta progression system for Xbox users. They originally pioneered the concept of Achievements, tying an overall ‘Gamerscore’ earned for Achievements to a user’s profile, a concept that went on to be adopted by every other major platform (except Nintendo). Now, it seems like they’re looking at giving it a fresh coat of paint.

According to Windows Central, the new system will be a ‘career’ system, where there will be XP tied to your profile overall; you will be able to earn levels, prestige ranks, and even loot crates to get cosmetic items for your avatars (which are also getting overhauled). This system is meant in recognition of the fact that there are many players who spend hundreds of hours on their Xboxes, but without their Achievements or Gamerscores reflecting that- since they spend most of their time on one game.

For now it is unknown when the new system will go live- maybe Microsoft can announce it at E3 this year.
