As we are about to hit the one-year mark for the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility program, the company has said it’s going to do something to celebrate. Just what that celebration is going to entail is anyone’s guess and Major Nelson was quick to point out it likely won’t be preceded with a “major announcement.”

In fact, Nelson posted on a Reddit thread in a way that seemed to be downplaying what the celebration would be. (sigh) pretty sure I did not say there was a HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT. So this headline is misleading. I said we had plans to celebrate the one year anniversary of the program.”

At the same time, Phil Spencer has been hinting that the list of games joining the backwards compatibility program in November is going to make people happy, saying there are a lot of fan favorites on the list. Ever since Microsoft launched this program almost a year ago, it has had a distinct advantage over Sony to the point where some PS4 players are quite annoyed the firm hasn’t done something similar yet.
