The Xbox One’s backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games is ultimately a marvelous feat of engineering, and is one of the things that has earned Microsoft the most goodwill from fans and the gaming community. With so many Xbox 360 games already compatible with the Xbox One (and more games being added to the list with every moment), Microsoft have done a great job here- but it doesn’t look like they are done yet.

Speaking on Twitter yet again, Xbox head Phil Spencer expressed a desire for backwards compatibility with the original Xbox. He clarified that no one at Xbox is working on this at the moment, meaning that it’s not likely to happen any time soon- but he also said that he would like to find the time to implement this feature.

Given how many times Spencer has expressed a desire to do this, and given how the things he wishes to happen end up happening (notably, he had hinted at Xbox 360 backwards compatibility long before it was officially confirmed), it may just be on the cards. Hopefully, it’s Microsoft’s big announcement at E3 next year.
