Original Xbox One Model Discontinued By Microsoft

Microsoft to focus on Xbox One S and Xbox One X going forward.

Posted By | On 29th, Aug. 2017

With the impending launch of the Xbox One X, Microsoft has gone ahead and discontinued the original Xbox One model, ceasing production for it- thereby maintaining their two model strategy, until now the Xbox One and the Xbox One S, and from now on, Xbox One S and Xbox One X.

In my opinion, the original Xbox One was as unelegant as the Xbox One S and Xbox One X are elegant- bulky, massive, and with an egregious waste of space, it was also a dramatic step down in terms of success and perception from the Xbox 360, which had been the de facto console of its generation, and been known for its elegant design. The Xbox One S and soon, the Xbox One X, have been designed as a response to the original Xbox One, in an attempt to address those failings of the original hardware.

At this point, the discontinuation is just a formality anyway- the Xbox One S had long de facto replaced the original model. Still, let’s pour one out for the bulky monstrosity that kickstarted this present generation of Xbox gaming.
