On August 2, Microsoft will launch a brand new model of the Xbox One– the Xbox One S will be smaller than the original system, with better placed ports, an integrated power supply, support for 4K, UHD, and HDR video, and an improved controller.
Microsoft apparently take great pride in the new system- so much so, that their new commercial for the Xbox One S, which you can see below, calls it the ‘ultimate gaming and entertainment system.’ While subjectively, that is up for debate – the PS4 does have more game support, more games, higher rated exclusives, and is a more powerful system, with VR support launching in October – there is no denying just how well Microsoft have turned the Xbox One S around.
At this point, which system you prefer will probably come down to the kinds of games you prefer- specs aside (and specs don’t matter when you’re actually playing the games, just ask Nintendo), both systems are reasonably evenly matched.
The Xbox One S will retail in three configurations: $299 for 500GB of on board storage, $349 for 1TB of on board storage, and $399 for 2TB of on board storage.
