Well, that we did not expect. Microsoft ended their excellent E3 showing today by doing something no one expected- they announced the Xbox One Scorpio, a console with 6 TFLOPS of power. The Xbox One Scorpio is going to be the single most powerful console ever made, Microsoft confirmed, and it will be fully compatible with the existing Xbox One.

‘No one gets left behind,’ Phil Spencer said on stage, ‘Today marks the beginning of gaming beyond generations.’ It was a hell of a mic drop moment.

The Xbox One Scorpio will be launching in Holiday 2017- so it’s a long way away from now. That said, if the specs are truly what Microsoft say they will be, then they have very effectively nullified the advantage that Sony had with the PS4. Especially given how conservative the PS4 NEO seems to sound by comparison? It sounds like this console war just got more interesting.
