The most high end console yet.

Not much is known about the upcoming Xbox One Scorpio, but Microsoft’s “beast” of a machine looms on the horizon, casting a shadow on everything else, including the just released PS4 Pro. In a recent interview with levelup.com, Xbox head Phil Spencer decided to talk some more about the Scorpio, confirming, in the process, that it will be a more expensive machine than the Xbox One S, and also that Microsoft are going to load it with every kind of technology that they can.

“You know, for us, when we think about the product lineup that we have, obviously our most affordable console will be the S console,” Spencer said. “And we make sure that we’re building that console and putting the features into that console to make it as enjoyable and desirable to as many people as possible at the price. Scorpio will be a premium console, it will cost more than the S, obviously- that’s how we’re building it.

“We haven’t announced price points for the Scorpio yet, but I want to make sure that the investments that we are putting into the Scorpio meets the demands of the higher end customer, and that will mean a higher price. The way for all of us when we think about the console market, is we should understand, there’s not one product that our customers buy- some people come in and buy the 500GB Xbox One S, while many are now buying the original Xbox One consoles, that are at a very good price.

“There’s no one product that you look at and say, ‘this is the product that defines how well you are doing in the market.’ It’s really the breadth of all the products you have at all the price points. And I think for us, we think about Scorpio, it’s for a higher end customer, who demands the most that they can get out of a console, and we built this console to meet that demand,” Spencer concluded.

All of which sounds reasonable, and also makes me pretty confident that Scorpio, too, will have a 4K Blu Ray player (something that Microsoft have not actually confirmed yet). The Xbox One Scorpio is due to launch next Holiday season.
