Microsoft and Xbox have slid into third place more or less since the launch of the Nintendo Switch, which now regularly contends for first place in sales every month, with the other console being relegated to second place. However, Xbox One X, the supercharged Xbox One that Microsoft launched in November, at least, appears to be doing well for itself- at least in the US.
During Microsoft’s quarterly financial conference call, Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella mentioned that the Xbox One X was the “top selling premium console” in the United States over the Holiday season- which, I suppose, means that it outsold the PS4 Pro in the US over the Holidays. Which should have been expected, given that it was, in fact, its launch period.
Of course, Xbox One X only forms a small portion of Xbox sales, and unless Microsoft can turn around the flagging sales of the Xbox brand worldwide, they will soon be overtaken by the just launched Switch in lifetime sales- which would be a rather dismal position for them to find themselves in.
