Xbox One X Will Support 1440p Monitors, Eventually

Xbox One X can be whatever resolution you want, baby.

Xbox fans are waiting with baited breath for the next evolution of the all in one home entertainment powerhouse to launch in a short few days, and while we’ve heard a lot about 4K resolutions, those with a 4K TV won’t be the only ones to see the power of the new console.

If you’re still stuck with a TV that caps out at 1080p, the system will “supersample” the visuals to that resolution, taking all the detail of 4K and crunching it back down for a noticeable, if not as good, bump to graphical fidelity. But there’s a wide world of resolutions in between, with many gamers enjoying 1440p monitors. Before this news, those users were looking at being stuck with an upscaled 1080p supersampled image, stuck between not reaching 4K power and having a monitor that could do better.

As Kevin Gammill, Microsoft’s Xbox Program Manager revealed on Twitter today, those will not be left out in the cold. Gammill explains via Twitter that (once supported) the Xbox One X will effectively output a native signal over HDMI to whatever the system happens to be connected to, in the case of the question, to 1440p.
