Xcom 2

Believe it or not but most of the performance issues that cropped up for Firaxis Games’ XCOM 2 were unknown before the game’s launch.

Lead designer Jake Solomon spoke about this with Rock Paper Shotgun and said that, “I can honestly say that we didn’t know it would be this way at launch.” Performance issues that did come up were noted as “sporadic” and “not across the board.”

Solomon went so far as to say that, “Maybe this is damning on me, but I’m sitting here talking to you now on the laptop I use to play it on and I didn’t see these issues. We didn’t catch this stuff in compatibility testing.”

Still, Firaxis is “fully, fully accountable for the product in people’s hands” and will “certainly take responsibility for it. I can’t say dates, but I would say that we’re working very furiously. We already have a lot of those issues in our sights.”

A patch was released last week for XCOM 2 to improve its performance. What are your thoughts on it? Let us know in the comments.
