Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles 2 received a ton of new details during the latest Nintendo Direct, including confirmation of pre-orders and an Expansion Pass. However, there was plenty shown about the gameplay that should appeal to both long-time fans and RPG players alike.

First off, the Blonde Pyra teased in the beginning is actually Mythra and she’s actually a Blade (and she’s not the only one). This allows the protagonist Rex to have four Blades during battle while others can have three. Depending on the Blades you have equipped, you’ll gain different abilities. Blades can also perform functions like earning more loot or opening up new routes while exploring.

Considering the number of Blades that can be earned (and which have their own personalities and classes), players will be able to send squads of them to Excursion Missions. They’ll bring back XP and build Blade Trust. Blade Trust helps unlock even more abilities and there are various “Heart to Heart” scenes between characters that also facilitate this.

There’s honestly a lot more to go through so it’s advised to check out the Direct presentation for yourself below. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 arrives for the Nintendo Switch on December 1st.
