It’s clear even at first glance that Monolith Soft have made some significant visual improvements to Xenoblade Chronicles in its upcoming Definitive Edition release, but now we have some clearer details some of its technical aspects- more specifically, its resolution.
Over on Twitter, @masagratordev looked at the game’s configuration files and shared what the game’s resolution is. It’s pretty similar to 2017’s Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The native resolution of the game itself is 1280×720, but it runs at a dynamic resolution in both docked and undocked modes. For he former, it runs at between 504p-720p, while in handheld mode, the game runs at 378p-540p. Rendering resolution when undocked is 75 per cent of the game’s native resolution.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition releases on the Switch May 29, and will bring plenty of new things, such as an Expert Mode, as well as the Future Connected epilogue, which will add 10-12 hours of new content. Future Connected also has a new battle system, and can also be played immediately, in case you’ve already played Xenoblade before and want to jump straight into the epilogue.

Calculation looks like that:
Native resolution is 1280×720
Docked rendering resolution = native resolution
Handheld rendering resolution = 75% of native resolution
Dynamic resolution can go to 70% of rendering resolution.
So 0.7*720 = 504
0.7*540 = 378— MasaGratoR (@masagratordev) May 25, 2020
