For a series which has usually just been labeled “GTA with Japanese gangsters”, Sega’s Yakuza worked to gain far more traction since debuting on the PlayStation 2 to become one of the better open world games, sandbox games out there. Now, Yakuza fans can look forward to seeing the series return (hopefully) as a “surprise announcement” will be made on August 18 relating to the franchise at the “Yakuza Character General Election” in Tokyo at 4 AM local time.

The Yakuza franchise has seen its fair share of spin-offs including one with zombies, not to mention tie-ups with AV idols and the like. It could be that this announcement is nothing special at all. It could also be a brand new game in the franchise. Is anything possible? Sure!

Stay tuned for next week, when Sega could either announce either a next generation Yakuza title or just an item for fans of some sort.
