Death Stranding

Death Stranding was shown off running on the PlayStation 4 Pro in 4K and it looked absolutely stunning during The Game Awards. However during a panel at PlayStation Experience today, Hideo Kojima confirmed that the final game will look even better than what was shown off at The Game Awards.

Given that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain ran at 1080p and 60fps on the PS4, we have little doubt that Kojima’s tech team will be able to push the visuals even more on the PS4 Pro. Running on the Decima engine, a set of framework and tools that is being developed by Guerrilla Games, this new engine features full support for physical based rendering pipeline resulting into realistic lighting properties for each object in the game.

Death Stranding currently does not have a release date yet. It will be a timed exclusive for the PS4 but will launch on the PC sometime later after it launches on Sony’s console.

Highly, highly doubt it will look better, let alone on par than that trailer…that thing was sick! But I just can’t see a game running BETTER visuals than a trailer, that’s got all sorts of nuts effects, due to the fact that all the hardware resources are used up for visuals alone (MSAA x8, realtime GI, massive amounts of polys etc), and doesn’t have to worry about player input physics and stuff. It’s like the only way I see this as a possibility is if it’s in 1080p on the Pro (and that would be fine). With that scenario, there’s a slim chance the graphics would be close to the trailer. I hope Kojima renders it in 1080p personally

    • Spencer

It was rendered looking like that at 4K already on the Pro though.

    • Mark

Yeah as a “scene”, or cutscene. It isn’t confirmed to be actual gameplay, else it defenitely woulda advertised that imo. Developers always do this, they say it’s “running in real time on the system”. They did it with Uncharted, they did it with Quantum Break. So it isn’t hard for the consoles to run this stuff when they don’t have to worry about calculating player movements etc. Anyway, that’s my take

    • Spencer

Yeah of course, that would be rendered cutscenes and not gameplay, but the PS4 Pro still rendered that at 4K.

You could also easily make the argument that the level of detail there isn’t necessary when the view is so far away from the characters in the game – the detail would be lost.

    • Mark

Don’t get me wrong….this game’s gonna look SICK on the Pro!

…….I have a VERY bad feeling….this and TLOU Part II will…..release on the exact same day….same month even when they’re both eventually done….hope I’m wrong.
