Forza Horizon 3 Sales Hit 2.5 Million

Well deserved for a great game.

Microsoft have announced that sales of Forza Horizon 3 have hit 2.5 million units worldwide, across Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs- which is an excellent number for what might be the best Xbox One exclusive yet, and a resounding justification for Microsoft’s continued investment in the franchise. Microsoft also confirmed that the Forza franchise has generated a billion dollars in revenue till date.

“Since the beginning, Forza has combined stunning graphics, racing’s leading simulation engine, and an emphasis on fun and accessibility,” said Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. “With the Forza series, Turn 10 Studios has built the world’s largest racing community. We couldn’t be more proud of their success.”

I think the success is well deserved- Forza Horizon 3 is an excellent game, and I am glad to see it selling. That said, I do also find it amusing that Microsoft, the company that swore to never release sales numbers, since they find it to be an inaccurate and misleading metric, went ahead and released sales numbers when it worked out well for them.

“Forza Horizon 3 have hit 2.5 million units worldwide, across Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs”

I really thought that game would have moved more being released on console and windows 10 PC’s.

    • Mark

That’s the thing; most of these PC gamers don’t even buy Xbox exclusives. Maybe last gen but not now. Look at Gears 4, I believe it sold only like 1.3m. And I heard it only sold like 100k on PC. Pfff. The multiplayer is addictive, better than 3 imo, yet these PC guys always ranting about wanting Xbox games….well u got it. Smh

      http://www.vgchartz.com/game/85730/gears-of-war-4/

Not the most accurate source, but 2.7 mil on XB1.

    • Mark

Even tho that isn’t exact numbers, I’d bet it sold way more on Xbox than PC, soo yeaah

    • Hiyperion

The “PC master race” gamers, at least the ones I’ve seen ranting on the internet, hate the Windows store … tough I wonder how “well” it would have sold if it was on Steam or any other store.

    • Psionicinversion

its not just master race gamers its pretty much all pc gamers avoid the windows store. I dont mind it as long as it sticks to just the MS games cus ill never buy a 3rd party game on windows store.

    • Hiyperion

Yeah I know, I bought FH3 on the Win store as well. I didn’t want to imply every pc gamer hated the store, but it is true that is a mess as it is right now.

    • Psionicinversion

its not that its a mess at least now when you go to install the game it gives you the option of which drive to install it to instead of you having to change the drive in storage options first its just the games that run on it have been questionable performance wise in the past. FH3 is ok but is more core dependent. I might try out gears 4 later in the year thats supposed be quite a good port.

Sea of Thieves is having a PC version done separately to xbox version so its not really a port as there being developed side by side so that might run quite well. as for 3rd party ill stick with steam/uplay and origin 😀

    • Hiyperion

That’s great to hear, haven’t been there in a while. And in regards to FH3, yep, can account to that – quite some problems actually. Tough I’ve heard that a possible cause might be the CPU having to decrypt appx files i.e. DRM.

Hopefully SoT will turn out better than the last couple of games, it wouldn’t be a good thing if another game had (severe) issues, when the public perception of MS and the store is as low as it is.

    • Psionicinversion

Yeah hopefully sea of thieves is done right

    • Mark

Dude I’m in here apologizing to everyone, lol. I forgot about the crappy Windows store ahaha

    • Hiyperion

No worries mate, this was a mistake on MS part, if they released it on Steam it could have garnered much more sales.

Said that, I do hope they improve (perhaps the creators update /game mode is one such thing) on the store and optimize the games. Like FH3, it run quite poorly on my PC. In comparison I could run doom at 1080p, ultra with above 70fps, meanwhile on FH3 I had it at 1080p,medium settings and dips below 30fps (and quite a few crashes and freezes), tough (and thankfully) I still got to play it on my xb1, otherwise I would probably demanded a refund.

FH3 is an amazing game, but with the issues it had I do hope MS works on making sure their next games run better, much better, otherwise the Win store will turn out to be a joke in comparison with steam.

    • Psionicinversion

to be quite honest you cant really blame PC gamers for the kind of low sales because number 1 most people are put off by it only on UWP same as gears 4, it they released it on steam the sales would be much higher but the main thing you should look at, Forza and Gears are the staple franchises of xbox that they always rave about right so why arent the 26million xbox owners purchasing it?

Them guys talking about low pc sales numbers are deflecting from why xbox gamers havnt purchased it. Without PC those sales would of been even lower so weve helped in a way 😀

    • Mark

Lmao. Ur right, never thought about the Windows store crap. Eh we do buy games on Xbox, but I’m pissed more people didn’t buy Gears, dam I love the mp

    • Tomaterrrx

I think people are just put off by the Windows Store. Imo I think it’s pretty bad and prefer Steam in basically every single category. I hope MS improve this, though. Play Anywhere looks like a useful feature.

    • Mark

Never thought about that. Ur right

    • Gamez Rule

I try my best to not use Windows store and if I can avoid it I will. I’ll stick with Steam with most games.

    • Mark

I hear u Gamez, I got ahead of myself, didn’t think about dat

    • Psionicinversion

i bought FH3 the day it came out, its quite a good racer but the core optimisation sucks on PC, but ill have my new ryzen PC build around start of march so ill be able do 60fps on it then. even a 1070 cant get close to 60fps on my pc in the city relies to much on the cpu to push framerate up.

Then ill buy that blizzard mountain thing… well maybe in april im going get Ghost recon wildlands and then Mass effect andromeda

    • Hiyperion

      1700x?

    • Psionicinversion

quad channel doesnt make any difference in games. so thats why it doesnt support it

      http://www.pcworld.com/article/2982965/components/quad-channel-ram-vs-dual-channel-ram-the-shocking-truth-about-their-performance.html?page=3

But the server chips like the 16c+32 core parts support 8 channel memory. so you can clearly tell where it makes a difference

    • Hiyperion

Great article, tough I was more curious about multitasking than just gaming alone.

    • Psionicinversion

Nah there all made up of 4 core blocks so it’ll be designed to access whatever channels they give it.

Multitasking is more about how much memory you have to store the stuff in and cores/processing power to keep it running smooth. Don’t think quad channel would make much difference, might be wrong but I can’t see it

    • Psionicinversion

bought myself these today… working on buying the parts before release and installing most of it so its super fast. having a really bad time deciding on case.

    • Hiyperion

That looks sick, I’m also contemplating going a tad overboard with the build (1800x and a 590 x2 if not 3 + possibly the TriedtenZ you’ve just shown me xD) just not sure what to do about the cooling.

It will be a nice upgrade to the current 8350@4.6GHz; 2x 290s.

    • Psionicinversion

Yeah bit expensive though cost me £180 inc delivery but worth it. I’m getting either a kraken x42 or 62 AIO because has good cooling performance and has an RGB pump. It’s awesome. Might get a couple nzxt RGB fans with the Hue+ controller, and thinking going a white build with NZXT S340 elite white, and Asrock x370 Taichi or think it’s msi titanium White board or one from another company. Decided to leave my case till the boards are out to properly decide.

First motherboards releasing 24th and ryzen is releasing 28th February, a site in Netherlands has ryzen up for pre-order with launch date of 28th. Looks like 1700 going be about £350, 1700x about £420 and 1800x £500+

    • Hiyperion

I’m still going to wait a couple of months for Vega (hopefully it drops sooner than rumored) so I’ve got time to decide. Wont build it until I’ve got every part in my hands, so might as well wait a bit to see what’s going to happen, I can only wish for a white AM4 version of the Z270 Gaming M7.

In regards to your build, basically this – btw it looks fekin awesome (the pure white that is, after that it gets weird xD):

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcRQeP0uqmY

    • Psionicinversion

yeah ive seen it which made me consider changing cases. Thing is with the motherboards i reckon theyll only be doing white AM4 versions of the same white Z270 boards.

i originally set my sights on this

      https://www.overclockers.co.uk/be-quiet-dark-base-pro-900-full-tower-gaming-case-orange-ca-11c-bq.html

I messaged NZXT about rhe kraken coolers and they are doing brackets for AM4 but they have no idea when there going to get them from the factory. That netherlands site apparently pulled the site so dunno if it is launching 28th but it will be at GDC for sure so 28th-2nd march should be release window.

    • Hiyperion

I was just looking at that case, it has quite the good reputation (case of 2016 by quite a few sites).

About the preorder site, yeah I’ve seen that, hopefully, its not long now. If review copies are coming on the 28th, I doubt AMD would launch them much later.

Btw thanks for the info about the coolers, I was wondering about AM4 compatibility, tough another question would be if they might release something
      for Ryzen specifically.

    • Psionicinversion

im edging towards the corsair 570X RGB now cus i figure i dont really need a case that big. to many decisions, well 2 decisions. The only cases out of about 2-300 that instantly attracted me was the Noctis 450 1 year or 2 ago, the 570X RGB and Dark base pro 900. I feel if i buy the S340 elite just for some lights i might get bored of ill be stuck with a choice i dont really want. ive got a couple weeks decide anyway

    • Gamez Rule

I was looking in getting this for the main room to place under the TV so I don’t have to take up room with the PC tower that stands out like a sore thumb.

      https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk-game1-pro-customisable-living-room-gaming-pc-intel-core-i7-6700k-fs-18q-og.html

    • Psionicinversion

Looks pretty decent, tons of power in tiny space. Best be careful you don’t make your other consoles jealous!

    • Gamez Rule

My son said the same thing lol.

Gonna place my current gaming PC in the games room, and use the under TV where possible so that my main gaming can be all in one place for this gen while last gen games etc stays in the games room.

    • Psionicinversion

hahaha. Nice, easy to switch between stuff them aint it. sounds good 😀

  • SonyCeasarPS4

    NO! XBONE HAS NO GAMES

    DELETE THIS FAKE NEWS NOW

    • Mark

Yeah well imo, I just don’t see Xbox games on PC showing any good results. I’d bet PC accounted for no more than 25% of sales for Horizon 3. These guys cry, then, when they get Xbox games, don’t buy. Lol.

    • Luke Skywalker

I think most PC gamers just wants to say: “look we gots teh xbox gamez”

    • Mark

      Haha, “Teh Xbox gamez” lol

    • Riggybro

If they put their games straight to Steam it might help (honestly the Windows store is REALLY bad..)

To be honest though apart from Forza and maybe GoW it’s been slim pickings on Xbox+PC (they could have been onto a winner with Halo 5 if they had though… maybe?) If they release something a little more interesting they might sell more. 3rd person super soldier and racing games are a dime a dozen don’t ya think?

I actually got GoW for free with my GPU I downloaded it still haven’t played it – apart from being a PC graphics showcase it doesn’t appear to be that enticing compared to the 47874368886432578 interesting things on Steam and GoG

    • Mark

I hear u Riggy, I didn’t think about that. But eh man don’t knock Gears 4, I love the mp. And it has a big following on PC too. But ur right. Microsoft does need to step up their efforts for PC gaming.

    • Alistein

I’m sure they will in time. Going on steam will be a mistake it’ll make windows 10 gaming meaningless.

  • Mr Xrat

Expected better from a game bundled so hard, on PC and console and focus-tested to h3ll with no regards for depth or originality.

Don’t be angry mental case uncharted might get 20 players per month for the laughable online modes vs over 3 million on this. Hilarious

    • Falconhoof

      You’re better than this, hopefully.

  • Alistein

The success is indeed well deserved but I think it bodes badly for them to be touting numbers now.
