Only Xbox One X Will Download 4K Assets For 4K Enhanced XGames

Smart solution.

One of the many concerns some Xbox players may have is regarding 4K assets- those things can get really large in terms of file size, and can be pretty rough on download caps and hard drive space. So will someone buying Forza 7 for their Xbox One S have to download the full file with the 4K assets too, needlessly straining their internet and storage?

As it turns out, no- only the Xbox One X downloads 4K assets, wherever relevant. Other consoles do not. “With the launch of Xbox One X, when it comes to game content our intention is to download the correct assets to the correct console,” a Microsoft representative told Stevivor.

The important thing here is that the Xbox One X will download 4K assets even if you have connected it to a 1080p TV- which should nonetheless lead to enhanced visual quality, thanks to supersampled 4K assets. ”

“Regardless of the TV you are playing on, 4K assets will be downloaded to Xbox One X (if available) and the standard 1080p assets will be downloaded to an Xbox One S,” the representative continued. “As part our developer readiness for Xbox One X, we have made available a feature which will give them significant flexibility when it comes to what gets installed on a user’s console,” the Microsoft representative continued. “In addition to 4K specific assets, developers have options when it comes to language specific assets as well, which depending on the title, can drastically reduce the install footprint. This ability to intelligently install the best assets for each console and language are available on all Xbox One devices, and it will be up to the developer of the game to determine the specific implementation.”

This sounds like a very smart implementation, and a neat way of side stepping what would otherwise be a pretty major problem. Kudos to Microsoft on this one. Now if only their game file sizes weren’t so obscenely huge…

4k textures and assets make the X the only 4k console. Guess why Xbox one S and PS4 pro don’t download the additional assets like the X ?

umm…did you forget that the One X is 4k dynamic with publishers announcing ‘4K’ support as checkboarding, etc.? And just like the rest of the systems it can’t do Destiny 2 at 60fps. First because the hardware isn’t powerful enough, second because they have to support the garbage One/S systems for cross play.

All this articles tells us is that the One/S line will not be burdened with 4K data when they can not use it. Makes for more efficient hard drive use. The inference is that you better be buying an multi-TB HD expander for it asap.

Errrr 4k textures and assets have nothing to do with resolution for which devs are free to choose on their own. Regardless, there are many many native 4k games are on Xbox one X. Titanfall 2 is 6k, shadow of War native 4k, super luckys tale native 4k 60fps, path of exile native 4k 60fps, Forza 7 native 4k 60fps, F1 native 4k 60fps…
Cry more little twit. Have a look at the embarrassment known as GT sport.

you also forgot gears4, re7 and the rest of uwp and more to be announced.

Oh yeah, whatever happened to Flop Anywhere? All that hype at the start of the year and there wasn’t a peep of it at E3.

    • C. Hoffer

      ROFL. Delusional.
I’m not the one crying. I’m stating facts from the M$, the game devs, and the in depth reviews. You, on the other hand, come across as a temper tantrum baby. lol
      Wahhh…I want my X..Wahhh…..

I will give the baby a sucker on this though…those limited scope Racing games sure look good at 4k. Too bad they do not represent actual 4k/60fps games outside of a closed circuit racetrack.
On the other games a) cartoons don’t count as real 4k material and b) games like Gears should be 4k no problem as they had to restrict game play world so much for the POS One/S that that same area should play at 4k no problem any other more powerful system.

Bet you never thought you’d be making this many pathetic excuses a month ago, retarded woodpecker!

    • Aenea

Many native 4k games? You mean many ‘true 4k’ games which is not the same thing…

Also, clearly you have no idea what ‘4k assets’ are. They are just higher resolution textures, there’s nothing special about that and doesn’t need a high spec’d device to be able to use them.
So yes, even the Pro can use higher res. textures.

The ignorance and gullibility of Xbox fans is staggering. They eat all the MS PR crap up!

    • C. Hoffer

Actually I think it’s a combination of arrogance, stupidity, and ignorance (meaning lack of knowledge – defined here as they are not smart enough to know the meaning of the word).

They believe whatever is put in front of them and put their own spin on that info but are not educated enough to know any better. They form their own opinions on what they think they heard.

Items to date they are delusional on to the point of absolutely stupid:
      – ‘new’ DX12 will make the One & S as fast as original PS4
      – ‘extra CPU’ core made available will make the One & S as fast as O.PS4
      – new dashboard/memory/OS optimizations will ‘boost’ One/S so its as fast as PS4
      – One S is the first redo of the One and the PS4 Pro is the first redo of the PS4 therefore they are pretty much equal
      – The One/S ‘upscale’ textures so they look good at any resolution and therefore the extra power in the PS4 and Pro mean nothing
      – 4K assets are not required as the One/S are magic upscalers
      – One X is a 4K machine so all developers will automatically make full 4K games
      – Dynamic resolution (designed for initial Xbox One due to weak system) is because developers are lazy
      – Checkerboard 4k is because developers are lazy
      – Games like Destiny 2 are not 60 fps because developers are lazy (despite them publicly telling people the CPU is not strong enough)
      – etc.

List list of hilarity is just starting for the One X. It isn’t even here yet and these rabid fans know all about it and apparently can design games better then the AAA game studios. lol

  • Mavericks

Ok, if you’re using external storage, will it work across consoles?

  • Mr Xrat

Just as well there won’t be that many games that have them then, and even they they’ll be medium textures mislabelled by MS to hoodwink idiots who’ll dutifully fall for it.

  • Riggybro

XBX is capable of running games at 60 fps (so is the N64). Just not Destiny 2.

    • C. Hoffer

The amount of absolute stupid comments you make lead me to believe you aren’t just opinionated, but straight up retarded.
All devs load the appropriate assets for the games and they are somewhat independent of the screen resolution. Even 4k checkerboard will use 4k textures.

  • C. Hoffer

You clearly don’t know what a 4k texture is as what you said sounds like absolute stupidity.

  • C. Hoffer

It has been confirmed that the Xbox X CPU is unable to process the amount of physics needed to run Destiny 2. The game engine calls uses the full CPU for a number of game related functions and the One X simply is not fast enough to handle those requirements.
No b$. Just simple facts. You don’t have to like them but you will be eating them. Destiny 2 – 30fps whether you like it or not. LOL

  • Will

As graphics get more detailed, the file sizes get larger. It’s not rocket science. I don’t get the buzz about this. There are some pretty large external drives available for less than $100.
