Path of Exile Xbox One X Running At 4K/60fps, Dev Doubts Many Games Will Fully Utilize Its Power For Some Time To Come

"I doubt games will be fully utilizing its hardware for some time."

One of the most notable independent game releases coming on the Xbox One is Path of Exile, the free to play hack and slash loot action RPG that launched on PC some years ago, and made waves by being a compelling alternative for people who had been disappointed by Diablo 3 upon its original release.

With Path of Exile coming to the Xbox One right around the same time as the Xbox One is set to get a refresh via the Xbox One X, we decided to ask Chris Wilson, producer at Grinding Gear Games, whether the game will be leveraging the full power of Microsoft’s superpowered console.

“Yes, we have it running at 4k/60fps on an Xbox One X at the moment. It’ll be available at the launch of the console,” Wilson said.

Wilson also said that, given the specs of the machine, he sees a longer life ahead for the system- especially since he thinks that it will be a while before a game fully taps its power. “Yes, absolutely. I doubt games will be fully utilizing its hardware for some time.”

That indeed sounds likely- but I hope more and more developers look into tapping into the full extent of the machine’s frankly impressive hardware. It is undeniable that Microsoft has truly made the Xbox One X one hell of an impressive console.
