PlayStation 4: Going from User Interface to Playing a Game Takes About 7 Seconds

“How is this possible?!?!”

When Sony first began its Gamescom 2013 press conference, it did so in the most innocuous way possible. We had President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for SCE Shuhei Yoshida just sitting in a chair, sending out tweets, that kind of thing. Thankfully, it didn’t generate into the full-on insanity Sony is known for, but there was something interesting a Redditor noticed.

Yoshida exited the user interface, going from spectating someone else’s game to playing one on the PlayStation 4 in a matter of 7 seconds. Don’t believe us? Check it out below.

Try timing how long it takes for you to spectate or do anything on your PlayStation 3 and then immediately go into playing a game. It might just be a few seconds difference – or much more – but it is a testament to how well integrated the systems are that you can leap right into games, no matter what you’re doing.

The PlayStation 4 will be launching in November on the 15th in North America and on the 29th in Europe.

Bonus: Did anyone noticed you can video chat in the game?

Pure magic on Sony’s part-their hUMA gives them that advantage to seamlessly carry out multiple tasks and get them done efficiently. The best is yet to come as of now.

That’s about 6 seconds slower than the X1….just sayin’. 😉

I know I am spoiled and a PS Fanboy, but I would really appreciate those 6 seconds!

Knowing how long it takes to get setup is probably one of the biggest reasons I am more likely to turn on my ipad than my PS3.

dude if the game is already preloaded then yeah both are simountaneous but i doubt without being loaded getting into a game on x1 takes 1 second. Some link to a source proves otherwise but yeah i have read no such thing about the X1
here`a a ps4 showing 1 second getting back to game when preloaded

Wish PS vita had a similar interface. Currently the Vita interface looks like it was designed for 6 year olds. My misses would laugh if I bought one. We have ipad, android and use our smartphones – all of which look mature and professional. Plz Sony get rid of the bubble and childish Vita GUI and make it ‘desirable’ pro-gamer and make us over 15 gamers proud to own one.

Expect Sony to shave off seconds over the years as they fully optimize the UI.
