Pokemon GO, the series long anticipated transition to mobile, just received its first official screenshots today- quite naturally, the game does not look like the concept trailer that captured everyone’s imagination made it look, but it does seem like a sensible translation of the franchise to smartphone sensibilities.

The actual game will involve finding Pokemon in real world locations and then catching them. Catching them adds them to your Pokedex. As your trainer level increases, you can catch rarer species of Pokemon. Meanwhile, you can also evolve Pokemon into other Pokemon if you catch enough of them. You can also find eggs which will hatch into Pokemon.

The game will also have a translation of the series’ traditional gym leader mechanics.

Pokemon GO is expected to release later this year for iOS and Android devices. Apart from it, players will also get the chance to play a more traditional Pokemon game when Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon launch on the Nintendo 3DS.
