PS4 Sales Decline Slightly in Q1 Fiscal Year 2017

However, 63.3 million PS4 units shipped thus far.

The latest earnings report for Sony is in, detailing sales for its PlayStation 4 console for Q1 fiscal year 2017 which starts on April 1st 2017 and ends on June 30th 2017. Sony managed to ship 3.3 million units during this period which is actually a slight decline from the same period last year when it shipped 3.5 million units.

As per Sony, this was due to the lack of a “highly profitable first party title”. Last year saw the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in this period. Sony has adjusted its forecast for the rest of 2017’s fiscal year, noting that it expects 18 million units shipped this year versus last year’s 20 million units shipped. The total number of PS4 units shipped thus far in its lifetime is around 63.3 million.

Despite the drop in PS4 sales, the Games and Network division saw an increase in sales by 5.4 percent year on year thanks to PlayStation VR and digital game sales. Sales for PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR haven’t been provided as of yet.

PS4 sales declining ! PS Done etc

“As per Sony, this was due to the lack of a “highly profitable first party title”.

Oddly enough that was similar to MS and yet MS was put over in a far more negative way by the press!

Should also take into account that buyers of consoles are waiting for the release of the much more powerful Xbox1X.

    • Mr Xrat

3.3 million this quarter against 3.5 million same quarter last year. What a disaster! You wish the Xbonks would ship anything close to a million a month.

As for the OI drop, it would help for MS if they had a popular and well-anticipated exclusive at some point.

    • THE4point2TFLOPweakness

& also a price hike hahahaha

    • Mr Xrat

Yeah, keep reminding everyone that MS made paid online a norm, Xgimp. 🙂

When you’re upvoting yourself, oh ridiculous one, you might at least have the nous to put your fraudulent “upvoters” in a different order.

    • Fweds

Why give yourself so many fake Upvotes ? Apart from he fact No Real people agree with you I take it you also do it to try and be at the top of the page.

If you didn’t catch the sarcasm I was posting a message of doom as Mrxrat etc would do if this were MS news.

I don’t want Microsoft, Sony etc to lose money, where would the advantage be in that ?

Only an idiot could not see that the more competition there is in the console industry the better it is for the end users/ gamers.

      My stalker has arrived

  • Starman

    63 mil SHIPPED , not sold ….

    • Luke Skywalker

Well technically shipped is sold, it’s sold to the channel. So the company got paid for those consoles they’ve shipped out. It’s not like the retailers sew going to send back unsold units. Same for Microsoft, shipped units should be considered sold.

    • This Guy

Except back when MS was quoting shipped numbers they were lambasted for it. Not saying it was you, but a lot were doing it.

    • MickaelSuarez

      Financial reports=shipped numbers.

    • This Guy

So MS was in the right for quoting shipped numbers?

    • MickaelSuarez

      For financial report, yes.

    • This Guy

Why did everyone tear strips off them for doing it then?

    • Holeybartender

Because retailers don’t represent the fanbase which is who Microsoft should have been appealing to.By abandoning releasing sold-to consumer numbers to “stop” their self-imposed bad image they were “saying” screw the fanbase. Just like when they told their fanbase to shut up and just keep buying 360s if they don’t like the Xbox One’s reveal.

    • This Guy

But Sony is doing it now and consumers are happy.

    • Holeybartender

Because it doesn’t matter to them anymore,Sony won their fanbase over already and continue to do so.

    • Fweds

Sony stopped showing PS3 numbers, Sony took the game out of Move to not show sales numbers, Sony told people if you don’t like the price of the PS3 then tough or get another job.

Sony and MS do exactly the same things, so why did you forget to mention both companies do exactly the same things and only point at MS ?

    • Holeybartender

I only pointed to Microsoft because his question was poised at why they were crying about MS,so I answered him. Yes it’s funny that the very mistakes Sony was trying to avoid from last generation with PS4 are the same pitfalls Microsoft is doing this generation with Xbox One.

    • Luke Skywalker

      That’s true

    • Holeybartender

Because Sold-to retailer numbers doesn’t represent the fanbase.

    • This Guy

So Sony is not representing the fanbase today.

    • Holeybartender

There’s no need to anymore,Sony won the console war. The fanbase has been more than represented by more than double the consoles sold than the competition, more than double the console exclusives, and 70 million PSN users strong.

    • This Guy

      So in other words, hypocrisy.

    • Holeybartender

The reason people want Sold-to consumer numbers is because it’s represents how many people actually bought the console, which is what the console war is all about.

  • Poseidon team

Sony sold 3 millions and project a total 18 millions units sold? Didn’t they say the Gold PS4 was a massive hit and sold like crazy during the same quarter sales went down? Are they considering that Switch and OneX will compete with Sony’s products during next Xmas?

Furthermore, Sony still must sell 5 millions in all next 3 quarters to fulfill their promise to investors. That seams unlikely unless they discount the base PS4 down to $199.99 which will bring revenue down.

  • THE4point2TFLOPweakness

Who wants a weak checkerboard sandwich hahahaha

    • Mr Xrat

A million people a month do, Xgimp.

Who wants a no games movie player? No one. 🙂

Why hide the most important fact of Sony’s financial report ? PlayStation OI dropped by a staggering $27 billion yen year over year. From 44 billion in 2016 to just 17 billion in 2017. This is horrible news.
