While Sony has promised substantial features with the upcoming firmware update 2.0 for the PS4, including custom themes, it still continues to release numerous smaller updates for the console. This includes software update 1.76 which has released earlier today. It’s 200 MB in size and “improves system stability”. You know, pretty much like several other updates in the past few months.

Regardless, we’d rather have improved system stability than not have it at all. Firmware update 2.0’s most significant new feature will be Share Play which allows players to call in friends to help them. You can basically let your friend take control of your console remotely and play the game through online access. Sony claims this feature will be pretty much the same as handing a controller to your friend on the couch for assistance.

Sounds good to us but we’ll be expecting something more in the coming months. Have you downloaded system update 1.76 yet and have you indeed noticed better system stability? Let us know in the comments.

I’m always curious as to what they mean. I’ve never had any instability in my ps4 or wiiu but almost every update improves stability. They must be fixing bugs that are affecting smallish groups of people.

  • Jordon Badari

ps4 is a lemon!! mine has had stability issues since the first update and has never been the same, if i could turn back time would have bought an xbox one

    • Josh Williams

OK Hater. Your the only one because myself and the other millions of ps4 owners have never had stability issues. You sound like a Xbox fanboy to me. Go jump off a bridge

    • demfax

      Don’t troll/flame like that.

    • Josh Williams

Uhhh if anybody is trolling its the post above me. Obviously making blatent attempts to defame the article about PS4 with his Xbox nonsense and untrue statements of ps4s stabability. Any true ps4 owner has had no issues of stabability which is why the constant updates stating this seem odd. I can’t stand people who can’t accept one or the other with consoles. I own both but don’t get on here defaming one or the other.

    • Reduse

I’ve had stability issues. Its just so minor I don’t care much. They are so tolerable that’s why no one really complains. So if you think true PS4 owners don’t ha e issues you are ignorant.

    • Josh Williams

I’m confused to these issues you are having that would be concidered a stability issue? So minor that its probably an issue on your networking end that you blame on the system?

    • Josh Williams

I never said that nobody has been having ANY issues. I was just stating that to say the PS4 is a lemon is so biased you can tell he doesn’t own the system at all. Every system since the dawn of time has had issues. At least in this age the company can fix it. I don’t use many of the social features that may have some bugs so my knowledge does not reach to all aspects of the system but in my experience everything has gone smooth besides typical internet connectivity issues which aren’t always the systems fault

When they give me customization and I can put a picture of a sexy bikini girl as my background ill be c perfectly content.

    • Josh Williams

I agree. Nothing makes a man more content than sexy women and video games. Combine the 2 and I’m a happy camper as well lol

    • Kaleb Shank

It freezes at random times in the main menu (home). Along with other tiny things that are so minor it isn’t that concerning. But in no way is it to do with network. By any means the PS4 isn’t a perfect device. Or else they wouldn’t have stability updates.

    • Josh Williams

I agree and I have personally never had a freezing issue but I’m sure usage, amount of tiles, and time spent on the UMD may cause different bugs to pop up for different users. What you just said is exactly what I was trying to get at. I know the ps4 isn’t perfect, its far from that., but as far as running the OS its more than satisfactory. Organization of the main menu would be nice (which I’m surprised hasn’t been demanded) as well as customization which has been confirmed. Flash drive compatibility would be nice as stated above but the format the PS4 drive runs on it will never be possible as the PS4 drive is not formatted for that. Also implementing a flash player compatibility would be nice but I also am realistic in knowing this may never happen

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

My PS4 works like a charm….no issues. That’s also what I hear from most PS4 owners. Only the chosen few actually have issues.

    • demfax

Doesn’t look like trolling to me. Some PS4 games have stability issues especially BF4, although that has problems on all platforms and is more the dev’s fault.

      Don’t flame people like that.

    • Josh Williams

He didn’t give an example of what is going wrong and probably doesn’t even own a ps4. You can clearly tell its just an attempt to troll and burn a ps4 article. Check out demfax BRAH!

  • Andrew

all i want is to for them to bring out a update where i can watch video/movies from my USB Stick/Drive!!!

    • Josh Williams

Geez just plug your cpu into your TV with a HDMI cable and watch your movies. Most likely they are pirated if they are on a flashdrive so playing them through a social-media monitored and always online/monitored system like a PS4/XBOX One is just asking for letters/threats from production companies. Not very smart

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

Actually, you’re not very smart considering there’s no way for anyone to tell if something is pirated. There’s people like myself that make digital copies of their movies. How can you tell the difference between that and a pirated movie? Answer: You can’t.
Also, computers are most likely always online as well. So both of your points are moot.

    • Josh Williams

Your replies are very unintelligent and uninformed if you don’t know how companies and anti-pirating agencies detect pirated software, movies, and music. Pirated media does not contain the same codex that are printed in legal prints. How do you think Cinivia detects what is legal and illegal? Watermarks and codex are put into the audio codes that when ripped or copied are not there. This is even true when you digitally copy a movie that you bought and are making a copy of. You are personally allowed to watch that but it is illegal to transfer or share this media. Their are several ways to tell if something is pirated whether you look at the .dll files, codex, watermarks, or even just the root of the file which would tell where it has been before you have it. You are very uninformed. Even your I.P. address can tell if you have been to places that distribute illegal copies. How do you think people get in trouble? lol. You download the movie then watch it while they are activated on your MAC address or I.P.

    • Josh Williams

In reference to what you said as well about digitally copying. If you read your digital copyright act you are allowed to make 1 hard copy of your physical copy that you have bought but it is illegal to save or store media on devices but this is not found often unless you are caught transferring or sharing media in which they have the right to press charges and search and confiscate your hard drives as well as your computer as evidence to a crime. Have you never heard of the people who have been given $20,000 fines or years in prison for this? Why do you think they got this big of a fine? Its because they found hard drives and personal files of hundreds if not thousands of illegal copies of movies. I’m guilty of this (and so is probably 70% of cpu users) so I’m not saying its wrong but this is why PS will not allow this. They don’t want hackers/pirates to hack into the UMD system like has been done with the PS3. Once you open up the drives you allow hackers in. Common sense and its that simple. Smart on Sony’s part. Sucks for PS4 owners like myself but it will open up eventually just not anytime soon

    • Andrew

I am a videographer. That is why. I suggest you stop making uninformed statements before you post, as in this instance (and from what i can tell many others in this thread) you are incorrect.

    • Josh Williams

Then you would know how it works and you clearly don’t lol. Their are companies that specialize in that. You are rediculous and not getting the point. I am a visual computer programmer. So whats your point? Do some research? Its not uninformed. Its well informed

    • Josh Williams

Instead of just saying I’m wrong why don’t you tell me the audio codex in a processed video released on dvd compared to one within a burnt or copied media? Why do you think Cinivia gets under the skin of so many PS3 users. Because it works and their are specialized ways to detect these things. Music and movie production companies are pouring millions into aiding this. Wow lol

    • Josh Williams

Another thing. When you download illegal media and games why do you think they always say, turn off internet in the directions? Because they can see you if they wanted.. Its simple networking BRAH!

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

That’s great…..just one thing. How would you download content with the internet turned off? Owned son. The people who get caught are caught when downloading or sharing….not when watching.Trust me. I’m a lot more informed than you are.

  • Josh Williams

I want some kind of organization for the Main UMB bar. I’m starting to have way to many items in a line which looks terrible. All it needs is a game drop like the TV & Video has or like the What’s New drop items. As far as the USB function. That will never take place sorry. Playstation is trying to avoid people from watching “illegal/pirated” movies on their system as well as it not being the right format USB drive installed into the PS4… On top of this the XBOX One has been getting killed with threats from the Actors Guild about being a pirate-friendly system and they are getting ready to use a Cinavia like program to stop people from playing pirated movies from DVD or Flash-media so that’s not an option anymore.
