Take this information with a grain of salt but a number of users on Reddit and Neogaf have received an email from Sony regarding the launch of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Last week it was announced that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be releasing on September 1st on consoles followed by the PC launch on September 15th.

The game stars Big Boss as the protagonist but according to an email sent from PlayStation, it’s Solid Snake who is coming back to the series. Now this may be a mistake as there is some widespread confusion regarding Snake given that there are so many of them, four to be precise. But Konami must have surely given PlayStation’s marketing team the exact details which in this case should have been Big Boss. Let us consider for a moment that this is mistake but a description from Amazon also seems to indicate that Solid Snake is back.

“Combining open-world action with a new breed of stealth, take on the rough terrain of Afghanistan and tactical espionage with Solid Snake and a whole host of new characters,” reads a description from Amazon. Either the executives from Konami, Sony and Amazon have no knowledge about these characters, which is extremely unlikely or this is some Kojima level trolling in action.

In the past Kojima has hinted that Solid Snake will be back. In fact on one occasion he has explicitly stated he will bring him back. With only a few months to go before the game launches, we will know for sure whether Kojima is playing us like a damn fiddle.

We will keep you updated as this develops.
