What, you thought Microsoft was the only company that could update the devkits and development tools for its console, so developers could get better performance and visual yields with higher efficiency? No, sir. Sony is also updating its devkits for the PS4- or planning to, anyway, if this recent job listing that they have posted is any indication of, well, anything.
‘We are currently looking for an experienced programmer to work on GPU Profiling and Debugging tools used by PlayStation 4 developers worldwide. This position offers the opportunity to work on all aspects of the GPU Tool as well as assisting game developers get the best GPU performance from their titles,’ the listing reads, before going on to list the specific tasks:
- Improving and implementing features of the PlayStation®4 graphics profiling and debugging tools.
- Designing and implementing systems that will enable game development teams to profile and optimise their titles.
- Support game development teams analysing the GPU performance of their titles.
Of course, job listings are a dime a dozen, and this may be just for routine devkits and tools management and maintenance, as opposed to a dramatic change or improvement- reading too much into job listings to try and get news from them is, frankly, a bit dumb. But still, now you know.
Stay tuned.
