Are Microsoft already engaging in mixed messages with the Xbox One Scorpio with regards to exclusives?

Aaron Greenberg, head of Xbox Games marketing at Microsoft, stated that, “Great thing is with Project Scorpio as part of #XboxOne family all your games will work, no Scorpio exclusives, so no one gets left behind.”

Of course, someone in the comments pointed out that devs could potentially target Scorpio-only and Greenberg replied, “Not true.”

But cut to Shannon Loftis, general manager of game publishing at Microsoft Studios, in an interview (transcription by NeoGAF) where she was asked about Scorpio-only games. Could there be any games that only shipped for Scorpio? Loftis noted, “I don’t know about that. We’ll see. It’s up to the game development community.”

Loftis also revealed that, “Game developers that are writing games…if they want to ship the game sooner if they enable dynamic scaling the game will automatically look better on Scorpio.”

Loftis’s statement could come across as a bit of “never say never” on her part while Greenberg takes a more hard and fast stance. Regardless, what are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments.

    I honestly rather the devs make the choice. Forcing devs to make their games work on the “older” hardware just holds back the games potential…and this goes for both Sony and MS.

    I mean, the problem here is that Xbox One and Xbox Scorpio have a massive performance difference. The X1 is like 1.3 teraflops (google search) while the Scorpio is 6 teraflops. That’s almost 5 times as powerful. You can build enormous vast detailed worlds with that amount of power…but if the game also needs to work on the X1…then the dev might have to scale back the enormous world that the dev originally envisioned.

      The solution will most likely be as simple as the programmer adding an option for 3840×2160 resolution and the 6 teraflops using there power to generate the extra pixels. Probable that there will be no increase to textures, draw distance or detail

      That’s what im worried about though. If i get the Scorpio, i want devs to take full advantage of the machine and not simply change the resolution.

      So far, im not liking what Phil is saying about how the Scorpio is not worth it if you dont have a 4k tv. It could very well be pr speak so ppl go buy the Xbox Slim. Ill reserve judgement when they show me games running on Scorpio though.

    They asked Loftis first who didn’t really know the answer but said it’s up to devs. But then greenberg corrected the situation after she said that.
