Xbox Scorpio Will Be World’s Only True 4K Console, Microsoft Says Again

Sounds like this is the marketing angle Microsoft will pursue with the new console.

Microsoft really is pushing 4K gaming as the angle for the Scorpio- once again, Microsoft has taken the opportunity to associate the new upcoming console with higher resolution gaming. The system has now appeared on the Xbox Store, and its store description anoints it the most powerful home console ever made.

‘The first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and high fidelity virtual reality,’ is another point listed in the console’s favor on the web page. It seems that Microsoft is yet again pushing for what is likely to be a major marketing angle for the Scorpio this Holiday season- that it is the mot powerful console ever made, and the only system actually capable of true 4K resolutions (unlike the PS4 Pro, which uses a lot of tricks to achieve upscaled 4K for most games).

While having and marketing a powerful console will undoubtedly help, I just hope Microsoft will have some games to showcase its power too- because otherwise, the hardware is just an empty shell. Thankfully, it sounds like Microsoft is looking into having some good games to showcase all that the Scorpio can do upon its launch later this year.

On the page I don’t remember microsoft singling out “4k resolutions”, they said “true 4k gaming” and I believe it makes a lot more sense the way they’ve worded and are trying to communicate the power of their console.
A lot of people don’t understand what true 4k gaming really means.

If most games run native 4K on Scorpio, it will be a 4k system. A few here n there that’s 1800p eh so what. Is not the PS4 a 1080p machine? Hmmm. However I do understand PC gamers have a different opinion of what “true 4k” is, and rightly so. This is a very technical topic, not a common sense one, so I respect how others feel about it. Anyway, I’m gonna blow like $2k on the best 4k TV I can find this fall to pair up with Scorpio!

Yep, plus factor in that 4k is not just resolution, it’s also 4k textures and 4k assets. Resolution is just one part of it puzzle. A true performance car is not just because of its engine, it’s also because of all the other high performance parts that are installed.

For me I have to wait until 2018 for my new TV 🙁 well there should be some good deals there though

    • Mark

yeah plus it has the proper bandwidth to offload those textures, so it shouldn’t struggle much

    • Jimmy DoneGood

Yes you’re right. The most important thing is that scorpio has a greater power and speed advantage over Ps4 pro which does fake 4k.

    • Gamez Rule

Not all games are *fake 4k* as you call it on PS4-Pro. The console does have some games running at native 4k, it’s just not possible to have ALL games running native 4k, and I bet you when P-Scorpio gets released not all games will be running native 4k either and will be *fake 4k* as you call it with games too.

There are quite a few ways they could market this new console actually….
Native 4k vs 720p boooost and an upscaling gimmick
Back compat vs no back compat
Game downloading vs PSnow streaming robbery
1080p TV supersampling and shader upgrade vs nothing
    4k blu ray vs nothing
coop and multiplayer gems vs single player hack n slash bores with no replay value after beating.

    • Ralf

you are idiot or blind xbox fanboy??.

    • Davey681

You are idiot or blind pony peasant ?

    • Ralf

No. Im normal xbox user, not blind idiot like you.

    • Mr Xrat

      No games versus games
      Idiots versus decent people
      Excuses versus results

Yeah, I’m not getting a Shitpio, retarded woodpecker

    • Mark

Ahaha, these guys hate u for that Davey

    • Davey681

      Silliness…
Hating someone for speaking the truth is moronic !
      Peace out

PSNow has always been a con job from Sony to rob their followers blind. It’s easier to steal money from those are dumb and gullible.

    • bewareofZ

The biggest retailer on the high street only has five 4K Blu-rays in stock lol

  • Gamez Rule

To be fair when looking at how good *Horizon: Zero Dawn* looks does “True 4K Gaming” mean anything?

Even though the game isn’t “TRUE 4K” Horizon: Zero Dawn has still raised the bar for open-world games and it’s a new IP too.

IMO P-Scorpio will still be using up-scaling & other techniques within some games which would not be classed as “TRUE 4K Gaming” but as long as MS has games coming that can raise the bar like Sony has shown with the above game using up-scaling & other techniques gamers should be happy.

    • Jimmy DoneGood

      Horizon is fake 4k.

    • Gamez Rule

      And your point?

  • Tactical Lag-fighting tips

OK, But just wait for the first non 4k native game.

    How will Microsoft look then?

No reason to be salty as Horizon Dawn is out now and looks great @ 1800p.
Even PC gamers are giving the visuals & detail respect.

    • Jimmy DoneGood

True 4k will always be better than fake 4k checkerboard.

  • Eliezer Barreto

‘sparse’ rendering as two examples. Half-resolution is a technique we’ve seen before, where intensive GPU effects are cut down in size to effect efficiency savings, sitting within a full resolution framebuffer. In effect, Microsoft is saying that half-res effects run at 1080p in a 4K framebuffer will look better than a native 900p, which is difficult to argue with. The second major technique it advocates is ‘sparse rendering’ – which is better known in the post-PS4 Pro era as checkerboarding. Not only does Microsoft advocate the same technique for Scorpio, it also cites the same impressive work by Ubisoft seen in Rainbow Six Siege – to the point where the exact same presentation shown to me by Mark Cerny a few months back is referenced in the whitepaper. Of course, the technique has evolved further since then, with the same core technology also used in the PC and PS4 Pro versions of Watch Dogs 2, with exceptional results..

    • Jimmy DoneGood

MS won’t dictate what other developers will do for their games. But Scorpio is a true native 4k machine.

  • Mr Xrat

“Guys! Guys! We’re still here! Pay attention to us!”

Yeah, pipe down, MS, we’re trying to play videogames here.

    • Michael

Pony tears. You bragged about 1080p and now you’re stuck with it..lol

    • bewareofZ

at the same time as you were saying resolution didn’t matter lol

  • Bob Harris

4k is a real pain IMO.
    And totally unnecessary.

  • Davey681

Wow….so here is what I am seeing between what the Scorpio will offer me vs the PS4 “pro”…..
Native 4k vs 720p and an upscaling gimmick
Back compat vs no back compat
Game downloading service vs PSnow streaming robbery
1080p TV supersampling and shader upgrade vs nothing
    4k blu ray vs nothing
Coop and multiplayer gems vs 3rd person single player hack n slash bores with no replay value after beaten
Sony really needs to step up their game. More Single player 3rd person single player hack n slash games some as low as 720p just aint gonna cut it. !
