RESIDENT EVIL 2
For a huge chunk of the Resident Evil fanbase, 1998’s Resident Evil 2 is the greatest game in the series, so it goes without saying that Capcom were under a huge amount of pressure with this remake. Earlier this year though, Resident Evil 2 did the impossible- not only it redefined and reinvigorated a beloved classic with just the right amount of respect, it also took the series itself a step forward with new ideas of its own. Resident Evil 2’s excellent level design, oppressive atmospheric, tense combat rank as some of Capcom’s finest work in recent years, and its blend of slow movement and third person movement make it a perfect blend of all the forms this venerated series has taken throughout the years.
