Some open world titles are chock-full of fun, exciting things to do. However, these games were either too dull or insultingly bad with their worlds.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst

Like many fans of the first game, I was thrilled to see Mirror’s Edge finally getting a sequel after languishing for so long. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst opted for an open world as opposed to the linear missions of its predecessors and the results were…mixed. It’s bad enough that the environments all felt one-note after a while, even if you did have the freedom to choose your own route (limited as it was) but the overall side content just felt repetitive and unoriginal while lacking polish. The user-created time trials were a nice touch but as a whole, the open world felt tacked on rather than serving an actual purpose.
