Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid is a series that, from its very inception, never shied away from the brutality of war and political conspiracies. But with Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Kojima delivered a game so darker than its predecessors that we can’t help but put it on this list. The story itself is purposefully vague, with gaps meant to be filled by a player’s interpretation. Add sequences like killing your own fellow infected soldiers and then turning their ashes into diamonds, and it isn’t hard to understand that Kojima’s swansong The Phantom Pain is the darkest game in the franchise.
