Meeting Emil – NieR: Automata

Nier Automata

NieR: Automata is a bit…tougher to understand. So you have Androids and Robots, the former representing humanity and the latter an invading force that have conquered Earth. Both factions are at war but also trying to find the meaning of life. Then suddenly a disembodied grinning head appears out of nowhere and starts talking as 2B and 9S discuss killing it. That’s Emil by the way – listen, it all makes sense if you played NieR Replicant or Gestalt. But despite the bizarre happenings – the robot children, the “human” robots, the never-ending cycle of despair – NieR: Automata offers some excellent story-telling themes and action to justify it all. In fact, everything really kicks off after Emil appears, if you think about it.
