Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
I had many issues with the most recent Castlevania, in terms of its narrative and gameplay. One aspect of it that defied my usual cynicism though was its gorgeous visuals. The whole game looked impressive, but the levels looked particularly nice. Whether it was the crumbling ruins or dank caverns, the environments in Lords of Shadow were able to weave an affecting mood far more efficiently than the game's tame story and generic gameplay. Whilst it was certainly a shame that C:LoS was a case of style over substance, it was very stylish indeed.
