There’s nothing quite like a story full of good, intriguing mystery. That can be a hard thing to pull off, and making sure that a story builds up questions without ever getting too obscure isn’t exactly something that every studio in the industry is capable of. Several are though, and have produced efforts that one way or another, ensure that players are always overwhelming with questions, wondering what all the answers are. Here, we’re going to talk about a few such games.

CONTROL

Probably one of the best recent examples of this, plain and simple. Remedy Entertainment has always exceled with storytelling, and doing so in a very unique manner, but with Control, they were at their absolute peak. From the very first second to the very last, Control drums up an air of mystery about The Oldest House, the FBC, all the characters you meet, and Jesse herself, and keeps building on that with intriguing nuggets of backstory and lore scattered throughout the game and some truly surreal and unforgettable environments. It’s a world that you can’t help but keep thinking about even when you aren’t playing the game.
