6. Just Cause 2
The Just Cause games have always had beautiful scenery, boasting beautiful islands you can run, gun and generally cause havoc in. The word island should be setting of a variety of connotations in your head, as you can’t have an island without lots of water surrounding it, and damn does that water look fine. It was also highlighted nicely by the vertical slant the gameplay took. Seeing water crashing into the coastline is all well and fine, but grappling up to a helicopter hundreds of feet in the air and viewing it from the sky adds a whole new dimension to the experience.
5. Killzone 3
There certainly seems to be precedence for PS3 exclusives populating this list in particular. Killzone 3 offered up some tasty graphics overall, but the sea rendered in the above video really takes the prize. It conveys an activity that many game oceans lack. Note the way it crashes against the rocks as well. More please.
4. Bioshock
Bioshock has a pretty intense opening section. Having just suffered from a plane crash above the ocean our hero, Jack, must swim through the depths of the sea in search of salvation. Sadly for him, that salvation is the lost city of Rapture. The scene sets up an intense fear and claustrophobia from the amazing sea effects, and then alleviates this pressure when the player finds the lost city; though this calm does not last for long. A game set under the sea has to have some snazzy water effects, and Bioshock was able to deliver on this.
