You’ve probably hard this one a million times by now- why didn’t Cloud or anyone else use a Phoenix Down to bring Aerith back to life? Well, the answer is that Phoenix Down is used on people who are knocked out, not on people who have flat-out died. But– why couldn’t they use the Revive Materia instead? You might argue that that, too, only revives people who’re KO’d, but at a certain point, that argument starts becoming a little thin, and we just have to accept that this is yet another case of ludonarrative dissonance.
