Improved Cover System

First person shooters with cover systems are few and far between, and the ones with good cover systems are minimal at best. Killzone 2 managed to pull it off suspiciously well, with its sequel adding to the tactical use of the cover system. We’ve seen some of the cover system being utilised in the Shadow Fall trailer, so we can only hope some work has gone into further improving this unique element of the franchise.

New Online Experiences

gaikai

The Killzone series has always been one of the prime jewels in Sony’s online crown, so Shadow Fall will certainly be taking the PS4’s online experience by storm on launch day. With Sony supposedly creating more smooth online gaming through Gaikai’s awesome streaming tech, games will (hopefully) be virtually lag-free. Add in the social features of the new console, and Guerilla games have a lot of room to innovate with KZ:SF.

Brutal Stealth Kills

The one trailer in circulation has shown off some of Shadow Fall’s brutal stealth kill animations. They look as silky smooth as you’d expect from a Killzone title, but they have a visceral quality to them that far too few games have at the moment. The death from above leap is pretty cool as well, taking a leaf from Far Cry 3’s book.

Chain Stealth Kills

Speaking of Far Cry 3’s influence, I’m pretty sure there was some kind of chain kill in the Shadow Fall trailer. Just after the player stealth kills from above, you can see him throwing a knife off into the distance. His target is too far away to tell if it’s a chain kill ability, but I doubt he’s hurling that knife for no reason.
