Released in 1997 for PS One before coming to PC and Nintendo 64, Nightmare Creatures was an odd little title. Set in 1834, its Gothic horror aesthetic stood out as players battled all kinds of terrifying creatures. A variety of weapons, from spells to firearms, were necessary for survival but the adrenaline bar was its most unique aspect. It encouraged players to keep fighting enemies, lest it run out and they die. Nightmare Creatures is almost akin to Bloodborne in a number of way, even if its combat didn’t hold up.
