Shadow Tower
A successor to the King’s Field series, FromSoftware’s Shadow Tower leans further into the dark fantasy setting while retaining the first person combat. However, it featured a number of big distinctions, like the removal of experience points. Enemies also didn’t respawn and certain types had to be killed to raise stats directly. Equipment still had its own durability though and could eventually break down with no time. There was also no auto-map, further immersing the player in its world and encouraging them to keep track of their surroundings.
