Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
A severe departure from its overhead hack and slash predecessor, Zelda 2: Link’s Adventure emphasized side-scrolling, platforming and deeper combat. Link now had a magic meter, which would drain upon using spells, and even earned experience points to raise his attributes. The combat system saw a variety of changes, from different fighting positions to jumping for evading attacks, and was significantly tougher than the first game. Considering how the Dark Souls games use The Legend of Zelda formula, it was interesting to see Nintendo take the series into its own dark direction with Zelda 2.
