Kratos – God of War 3
For all of the bad choices that Kratos had made throughout his life, seeking revenge on Zeus and Olympus is probably one of the worst. Poseidon’s death causes Greece to become flooded; Hera’s death results in the demise of all plant life; and so on. Following Zeus’s death, Kratos discovers that he has the power of Hope, a consequence of opening Pandora’s Box in the first game.
Instead of giving it back to Athena, Kratos stabs himself with the Blade of Olympus, releasing Hope for all humanity to use in its darkest hours. Of course, a post-credits scene teases his survival (later confirmed in the 2018 sequel) but there’s no denying his sacrifice.
